DAY 1 Colombo
Your tour commences with an arrival transfer to your hotel in central Colombo.
For your first night relax in the comfort of the 4 Star Cinnamon Lakeside Hotel, this hotel offers all the services expected of an international hotel. 24hr room service is available for late arrivals.

DAY 2 Colombo - Sigiriya Rock Fortress - Habarana
This morning you set off on your private chauffeur-guided exploration through the beautiful island of Sri Lanka. After breakfast depart Colombo and travel along the bustling Kandy Road past small villages, chaotic towns and roadside carts selling an array of local produce. On arrival in Habarana check in to the Cinnamon Lodge, an eco-friendly hotel set in 27 acres of wooded gardens. This afternoon travel to nearby Sigiriya Rock Fortress, or Lion Rock, one of Sri Lanka’s most iconic sights. Take the opportunity to climb to the top of this striking rock with its sheer vertical walls supporting the remnants of an ancient 5th century city.

Your home for the next two nights is the charming 5-star Cinnamon Lodge, set in expansive gardens the hotel features a lovely swimming pool and spa centre to unwind and relax. The pool area is also a popular spot to watch the resident Monkey troop and native squirrels at play.

DAY 3 Habarana / Polonnaruwa
Explore the ancient royal capital of Polonnaruwa, one of the most beautiful centres in Sri Lanka’s cultural heritage. Discover on foot, or by bicycle (optional - to be paid locally ), the wonderful treasures that remain in the archaeological park including the four beautiful rock-cut Buddha statues at Gal Vihara Temple. Afterwards you have the opportunity to visit a local village house where you can experience first-hand the cooking methods of a local family and enjoy a traditional lunch (optional - to be paid locally).

For some unique evening entertainment the hotel often offers expertly guided night tours to view the various nocturnal inhabitants with Civet Cats and owls a common sight. Subject to availability this can be booked and paid locally at the hotel (approx. AUD$20 per person)

DAY 4 Habarana - Dambulla - Kandy

Proceed to Kandy, stopping en-route to visit the UNESCO World Heritage site, Dambulla Cave Temple, the best-preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka. This Buddhist place of worship is thought to date back to the 1st century, and houses the country’s most sacred Buddha images. On arrival in Kandy check in at Cinnamon Citadel (4 star) which is set on a lush hill side overlooking the river, with a beautiful outdoor pool. Afterwards, visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, a complex said to hold the tooth of the Lord Buddha himself. Continue on to see the Royal Botanical Gardens before an afternoon free to wander around the city’s lake and explore the local markets. This evening enjoy a Kandyan Dance performance; the traditional Sri Lankan dance which flourished in the hill country during ancient times. Experience a colourful spectacle of stunning head-dresses and breastplates, acrobatics, drumming and fire-walkers.

Your overnight stay is at the Cinnamon Citadel Hotel, in a superior room. The hotel offers a tranquil atmosphere surrounded by forested hills overlooking the river, with a pool and gym at your disposal.

DAY 5 Kandy - Nuwara Eliya
Your journey today leads you through the scenic high country to Nuwara Eliya. On arrival in Nuwara Eliya, begin your exploration of the city where the colourful chaos of Sri Lanka meets colonial bungalows, well-tended lawns and red telephone boxes. Discover the journey from tree to cup of the world-famous high-grown Ceylon Tea. With your expert guide, walk through a local tea plantation, meet with a Tea plucker and visit the factory to see the processing stage followed by a tea-tasting session.

Check in to the historic Colonial era Grand Hotel, a destination in itself. The hotel features lovely gardens, an indoor pool and a famous snooker & billards room full of memorabilia (be sure to take look). The hotel is most famous for its high tea and this afternoon enjoy the High Tea on us - a typical British afternoon tea party that happens on the grounds of the hotel. It’s an experience as well as a place to enjoy some quality Ceylon tea and finger foods.

DAY 6 Nuwara Eliya - Ella - Yala National Park
Early this morning depart Nuwara Eliya where you continue onto to Yala National Park. On your way to Yala you will stop at one of Sri Lanka's most charming destinations tucked away in the misty high country, Ella. Set amongst idyllic green hills and waterfalls the area is best known for Ella's Gap, the Nine Arch Bridge and Little Adam's Peak. Continue on to Yala and experience the jungle and its curious wild life in a Jungle Chalet at Cinnamon Wild Yala.

Your home for the next two nights is the wonderful Cinnamon Wild Yala, a unique 4-star safari style hotel set within a natural landscape at the edge of the national park. Experience the jungle and your wild neignbours first hand from the comfort of your Jungle Chalet!

Ask us about an optional experience; one of the world's most scenic train rides from Nanu Oya to Ella. The 3 hour train ride winds through the misty high country forests, tea plantations and colourful villages - a truly memorable experience. Tickets are limited and it is recommended to pre-book this scenic train ride ahead of time.

DAY 7 Yala National Park
This morning set off on a private jeep safari into Yala, the second largest National Park in Sri Lanka and home to a great diversity of wildlife, most famous of which is the leopard. From your jeep you will be on the look out for elephants, sloth bears, water buffaloes, wild boars, Jackals, deer, crocodiles, porcupines and of course leopards - Yala is known as one of the best places in the world to spot the elusive big cat.

Your afternoon is at leisure and you can enjoy further wildlife viewing opportunities by simply relaxing at the pool, as it overlooks the local water hole, with its resident crocodiles, wild buffalo sightings, abundant birdlife, the occasional elephant and monkeys.

DAY 8 Yala National Park - Galle - Bentota
Travel the scenic route from Sri Lanka’s southeast coast to Galle in the southwest. En route visit beautiful beaches, the Wevurukannala Buddha Statue (the largest in the island) and stilt fishermen in Koggala. Once in Galle you will enjoy a tour of the Heritage listed fort area with its charming laneways, rich trading history and Dutch-colonial buildings. Your last stop for the day is the stunning beach town of Bentota.

Check in to the Cinnamon Bey Resort, a great place to un-wind as your Sri Lankan your journey nears its end. This large beach-side resort complex offers plenty of facilities including a day spa and a large pool. The charming property has a relaxed atmosphere and is themed to pay tribute to the Arabian traders who first made contact with Sri Lanka in the 10th Century. All rooms feature a private balcony with either a garden or an ocean view.

DAY 9 & DAY 10 Bentota
Sri Lankan beaches are world-class and Bentota is one of the Islands best. Relax, refresh and reflect on your travels with two full days free. With its beachside location, six specialty dinning options, a large pool and spa facilities there is plenty to keep you occupied at the hotel, or head out to experience the beautiful coastline and explore all it has to offer.

If your looking to explore more on your fee days we suggest you pre--book additional tours such as a Bentota River Safari, a visit to the Turtle Hatchery or the former estate and gardens of renowned architect Geoffery Bawa .

DAY 11 Bentota - Colombo
Your tour ends with a transfer to Colombo airport. En-route you will have the opportunity to explore the vibrant city of Colombo. It is a diverse mix of people, architecture and religion influenced by ancient kingdoms and European settlers. With your guide see the highlights of this wonderful capital which include Pettah Bazaar, Wolvendaal Dutch Church, Gotami Vihara and Hindu Kovil at Slave Island, one of Colombo’s most impressive Hindu Temples ending with a transfer to the airport.

Taking a late flight out of Colombo?
Many international flights depart Colombo late in the evening. For your comfort and conveniance a late checkout package is available to purchase. The package includes late check-out from your hotel in Bentota with use of hotel facilities, a private chauffeur-guide to Colombo and dinner at the 5-star Airport Garden Hotel, then it is just a short transfer (approx.10 mins) to the airport after your dinner.
Pending your flight times our expert team can make reccomendations on the best options on the last day. Special note: Be careful if you are booking your flights out of Colombo, some leave just after midnight so you need to pay attention to book the correct departure date. For instance direct flights Colombo to Sydney on Sri Lankan Airlines are currently scheduled to depart at 5 mins after midnight (As of March 22 they are scheduled at 00.05).
